One of my favorite things about living here in France is the food. I mean this is a country known for its cusine. I love going out to restaurants and taking pictures of the beautiful and tasty meals. Now normally I like to be on the eating side of the experience, but every now and then, I don't mind learning to cook something new as well, especially if it involves chocolate! So when I was invited to learn how to make chocolate mousse and quiche lorraine, I jumped at the opportunity. Christiane, our host, only speaks French, so it was like a french class and cooking class in one! Making chocolate mousse is actually a lot easier to make than I thought. Now Christiane doesn't follow recipes, so I don't really have one, but I took plenty of pictures and notes, so here goes....
Take one bar of dark chocolate
Break into pieces
Add about a tablespoon of water and melt chocolate in a double boiler
Stir and allow to cool slightly
Seperate 6 eggs, placing 3 yolks in one bowl.
Add melted chocolate to 3 egg yolks
Next, take 6 egg whites, add a pinch of salt and beat until stiff and peaks are formed
Gently fold egg whites into chocolate and yoke mixture
Me, gently folding :)
Transfer the mousse into another container or small ramekins and chill for at least 4 hours in the refridgerator
Et Viola!
And what do you think we did with the remaining 3 egg yokes...we made mayonnaise of course!
Now on to the Quiche Lorraine!
Making quiche lorraine was easy, but honestly we cooked without a recipe, so I will have to practice this one a few more times.
